Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
