Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
